  1. SACHEEN LITTLEFEATHER DEAD AT 75

Sacheen Littlefeather, the Native American actress and activist that declined Marlon Brando’s best actor Oscar in 1973, has died aged 75.

Littlefeather brought a 739-word speech by Brando which she was not allowed to read due to time constrainst, so she condensed it in 60 seconds.

The statement declined the Oscar awarded to Brando due to the treatment of Native Americans by the film industry at the time, and called attention to the Wounded Knee standoff.

Littlefeather was both booed and cheered.

2. 195-MINUTE CUT OF A BIGGER SPLASH TO BE RELEASED

Luca Guadagnino has announced that a new 195-minute cut of this 2015 film A Bigger Splash.

The new cut is expected to have a festival run first and then go to streaming.

3. ABDERRAHMANE SISSAKO’S THE PERFUMED HILL STARTS PRODUCTION

Abderrahmane Sissako’s much awaited The Perfumed Hill has finally started production.

This new romantic drama will be shot in Ivory Coast, Green Cape, and Guangzhou (China). It will follow Joice, a young woman who moves from her home country to Guanzhou and starts working in a tea shop.

4. JOHN WATERS TO ADAPT LIARMOUTH

John Waters will be adapting his own novel Liarmouth: A Feel-Bad Romance in what will be his first movie since 2004.

The novel tells the story of three generations of women from the same family who are all conspiring to kill each other. Waters has declared that he is “thrilled to be back in the movie business, hopefully to spread demented joy to adventuresome moviegoers around the world.”
